Marvel Teaser Offers First Look at Loki's Mythical Comic-Book Weapon

There is little doubt that the Loki series is all about the God of Mischief fixing the past events for humanity. However, it looks like the Marvel Cinematic Universe series will also allow Tom Hiddleston's character to revisit his Asgardian roots. A new teaser has offered a brief glimpse at Loki's mythical weapon that has appeared in the comic books.

The new teaser actually promotes the MCU shows on Disney+ so we get to see scenes from WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and Loki. Although there's nothing new about the scenes we see from the first two shows, the footage from Loki offers something unexpected.

The Loki footage features the God of Mischief taunting an unseen adversary, urging them to come and get him. Interestingly, Loki is wielding a flaming sword which looks a lot like the Lævateinn.

In the comics, the Lævateinn is the mystical sword of Loki. It is an ancestral weapon and Loki is able to summon it magically at will. The Lævateinn is actually based on the weapon mentioned in the Poetic Edda poem Fjölsvinnsmál.

It's great to see that the weapon will finally show up in the MCU considering that it is a powerful one despite its odd name (it literally translates to "damage twig"). In addition to that, the Lævateinn's appearance could mean that Loki will be facing someone truly powerful in the series.

Loki will also star Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Lexus Renslayer, and Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker actor Richard E. Grant has been cast in an undisclosed role. The series will premiere on Disney+ on June 9, 2021.
