Marvel Studios has reportedly scrapped their plans altogether to move forward with a sequel to Eternals.
The 2021 MCU film notably received polarizing responses among the critics and garnered modest box office performance. Despite that, fans are still hoping that it will get a sequel at some point in the future.
However, for the past few years, we have not heard any significant development on a potential follow-up or continuing the characters' journey in another MCU project aside from the brief easter eggs.
Marvel is Not Developing Eternals Sequel
A recent report claimed that Marvel Studios is not developing a sequel to Eternals at the moment.
Despite the teases in the film's post-credits scenes, fans should not expect that they will be addressed in future projects anytime soon.
Kevin Feige also addressed the potential sequel's fate in an interview a while ago where he confirmed that there are "no immediate plans."
However, he iterated that Captain America: Brave New World will address one of the storylines that Eternals left off.
"There are, and I think you’ve seen maybe in a trailer we’ve released recently, an acknowledgment of some of those events. Certain giant things came out of the ocean," Feige noted.
This is a discouraging update for fans who have been looking forward to the film to get a sequel as it sounds like there are no plans at all to continue it even in a different project where they can acknowledge the characters' fate.
There are a lot of unanswered questions that the film set up that may not be resolved soon (if not ever), which will make it more disappointing as the cliffhangers were intriguing enough for fans who want to see more of them in the future.
While there is still a possibility that we will see more of the characters in future MCU projects sometime after Secret Wars, fans should not keep their hopes anytime soon as a result of this development.
