Marvel Studios’ Echo Trailer Reveals Kingpin’s Fate After Hawkeye Finale

Marvel Studios will be releasing the Echo series, featuring Alaqua Cox in her first solo Disney+ show after she first played Maya Lopez in 2021’s Hawkeye as a semi-antagonist. The series is also set to feature one of the most anticipated big bad of Phase 5, Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, who was played by fan-favorite Vincent D’Onofrio.

While the show has already finished its principal photography in the last few weeks, Marvel Studios promoted the Echo series during its highly-anticipated panel at the recent D23 Fan Expo. It was previously confirmed that Kingpin will be returning, particularly considering that he is Maya’s “adoptive uncle” that was confirmed during Hawkeye.

Fans were able to get a first look at the Echo series during the D23 Fan Expo. During the event, Kingpin’s reunion with Charlie Cox’s Daredevil was teased after their appearance in Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home. As part of that, D'Onofrio's Kingpin made a comeback to the small screen in the trailer’s final moments.

During the panel, Marvel Studios unveiled the first look at Echo, which is set to premiere on Disney+ next year.

As it was reported by SlashFilm, the footage included the first look at Vincent D’Onofrio’s return as Kingpin. He is shown with a bandage over his eye, covering the gunshot wound that Maya Lopez gave him, as he tells his surrogate daughter "It's been a long time."

This new footage indicates that Maya likely only blinded Fisk rather than killing him at the end of the Hawkeye series. Another shot in the trailer also showed Maya looking at her hands as they glowed, which could be a nod to the Phoenix Force. While the MCU would likely not use the Phoenix Force specifically due to its X-Men connection, it is possible that she could gain similar abilities, which will be heavily explored throughout the series.

Marvel Studios’ Echo series is set to be released in Summer 2023 on Disney+.
