Marvel Star Teases Jump to DC After Being A Side Character in the MCU

James Gunn previously hinted that he aspires to bring the Guardians of the Galaxy squad to DC Studios after assuming the role of co-CEO. Before his and Peter Saftan’s takeover and 10-year plan to revamp the DC Universe, Gunn had quite a journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a director. Given his promising plans for the new DCU, not just writers and producers from Marvel are jumping ship to DC, but actors as well.

MCU's Crossbones actor Frank Grillo, who was seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, and Avengers: Endgame, may have hinted at his switching jobs from Marvel to Gunn's DCU. The former MCU star Frank Grillo teased that “the only constant in life is change” with boxing glove emojis in a recent Instagram story, which was reshared by his son Rio. Grillo stated cryptically, “Something's coming?” with hush emojis, tagging himself and DC Studios CEO. The actor's post was accompanied by the 1964 classic song "A Change is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke and a DC logo in the background.

Despite this single Instagram story not confirming anything, fans are chewing on crumbs that are being left by the actor. Gunn previously announced that HBO Max's upcoming animated series Creature Commandos have been cast, with the same actors expected to play the roles across live-action and animation. Grillo appears to be hinting at his involvement with the said project, as he commented with several “fire” emojis on Gunn's post of the team artwork, which was captioned “Can't wait for you guys to see these guys in action. #CreatureCommandos #DCStudios.”

In a past interview, Grillo communicated that he wanted to continue playing the side character, but Marvel isn’t keen to carry on with his journey. “My contract was for seven movies and I did my research into who the character Crossbones was. But they wanted the character to be shaped differently in the films. I would have loved to continue and be a bigger part of what they were doing, but it wasn’t part of my journey.” he told NME.

It looks like the actor’s disappointment with Crossbones' exit has possibly met its twist in another franchise under a new DCU hero.
