An upcoming Iron Man spinoff series has been lined up on Disney+, Armor Wars, and it will be featuring War Machine as Rhodes who would have to deal with the demise of Tony Stark. Marvel Star Don Cheadle had something to say about his character and he teased what could be expected from him in the new show.

While in an interview with EW in promoting his new film, Space Jam: A New Legacy, Cheadle teased that Armor Wars will be on a different level and we will get to know Rhodey from a deeper perspective. He said, "What's amazing is that what's to come is a whole other level. This will be an opportunity for the first time to really see who he is and what makes him tick."

Cheadle replaced Terrence Howard as James Rhodes when his character returned for Iron Man 2 and Cheadle held the role for years, making him one of the longest-staying actors in the MCU. He was last seen in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier's premiere episode where he attended Sam's turn over of the shield of Captain America to the Smithsonian Museum.

Armor Wars will focus on Rhodes being left with his arsenal of suits following the death of Tony Stark and with that, he had no choice but to be the new Iron Man. Rhodes would have to prevent chaos with what happens when the technology invented by Stark falls into the wrong hands.

With Phase Four of the MCU being a transitional period of passing the torch from one to another as Sam becomes the new Captain America, and Yelena becoming the new Black Widow, plus the upcoming title passage of Hawkeye to Kate Bishop, and of Thor to Jane being the new wielder of Mjolnir, Armor Wars will have a similar storyline as well.

There is no confirmed release date yet for Armor Wars but it is expected to debut sometime in 2022.
