Marvel just scored an Oscar nod for acting. MCU star Angela Bassett earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her stellar performance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Marvel Celebrates Black Panther Oscar Nods

Marvel stars hadn't been recognized for their acting prowess, unlike their rival studio, DC Films. While Marvel films have scored nominations in technical categories, the actors haven't been nominated for the acting category.

On the other hand, DC stars like the late Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix both won Oscars for playing Joker, an iconic character in the Batman franchise. However, that changed today, as for the first time, a Marvel star was nominated in the acting category.

Black Panther Star Angela Bassett Reacts To Her Oscar Nomination

The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star didn't hide her joy following her Oscar nod. She took to Instagram and said their morning at home was "a little extra special" due to the news of her Oscar nomination. Bassett explained that her character, Queen Ramonda, touched her spirit.

"What has drawn me to each of the women I've portrayed throughout my career is their strength, compassion, resilience, and power," she wrote.

"Wakanda Forever's Queen Ramonda is a character that touched my spirit because she is a mother and a leader who must care for her grieving nation as much as she cares for her family in mourning. Ramonda is a love letter that reflects and acknowledges what we women do everyday."

Bassett was thankful to the Academy for acknowledging her talent. The Notorious star made an Oscar buzz after viewers watched the Black Panther sequel. They were touched by her performance as the leader of the grieving nation. However, she explained that she didn't do the project for the awards.

"You don't do these kinds of projects for the awards," she said at the time. "I appreciate the buzz on it, because I know that it doesn't really come from these big superhero movie franchises."
