Angela Bassett Responds To Oscar Buzz After Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Performance

Those who had already watched the Black Panther sequel had nothing but praises for Bassett's performance in the film. She even trended on Twitter Thursday night before the film's release in the United States.

Variety also discussed a scene at the United Nations where Queen Ramonda (Bassett), who now leads Wakanda, parades the bound prisoners as she reprimands the world for daring to raid her nation. She was furious about Wakanda being a victim of racism. It was reportedly a "terrific scene."

Due to Bassett's performance, many were expecting her to win an Oscar for her performance. The 64-year-old actress responded in an interview with Variety.

"You don't do these kinds of projects for the awards," she says. "I appreciate the buzz on it, because I know that it doesn't really come from these big superhero movie franchises."

She explained that "Wakanda Forever" is a "whole, rich meal" that she found "completely satisfying."

She admitted that she used her emotions to portray her character as she and the rest of the cast members dealt with the loss following Chadwick Boseman's passing. Boseman played T'Challa, a.k.a Black Panther, in the franchise. He passed away in August 2020 following four years of a secret battle with cancer.
