Marvel Reveals Why Thanos Saved Gamora Instead Of Killing Her As A Child

It's no secret that Thanos was a ruthless killer who would annihilate people because he believed he was doing a good thing. But why did the Mad Titan choose to spare Gamora and actually adopted her instead of killing her along with the rest of her entire planet like what happened in Avengers: Infinity War? Marvel has finally revealed the strange connection Thanos had to the little girl all those years ago.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers from Thanos #1 so proceed with caution.

The new comic book Thanos #1 explores how the character went from being a relatively nice little boy to a Mad Titan on a rampage to kill anything in his path. Interestingly, the comic reveals a different view of his relationship with Lady Death, who he has been seeing since childhood. No, really, Thanos actually sees Lady Death and realizes he is the only one who can perceive the mysterious woman.

Soon, Thanos discovers that Lady Death shows up whenever he kills someone. This is why he goes on a murderous journey in hopes to win her love. However, Thanos soon grow weary of what he is doing and considers stopping. That's when Lady Death led him to a sad little girl on the planet Zen-Whoberi.

Thanos takes note of the child but still kills every Zen-Whoberian he sees. Then things changed when he finds the girl Lady Death had marked and the child immediately calls out to the woman he loves.

This confirms that the little girl can actually see Lady Death as well. Thanos decides maybe if he couldn't have the love of the elusive woman, perhaps he could find happiness in a daughter instead.

Interestingly, Gamora herself has a simple explanation for why she was able to see Lady Death.

"I was a little girl, the last person alive on the only planet I'd ever known. Even if he'd let me live, it was only a matter of time before I would have starved, or fell down a well. Of course, I could see the face of death."
