Marvel Reunites The Invaders in January, But it Won’t Be a Happy Return

Marvel's first ever superhero group is coming back as the company has announced a new Invaders series that will be debuting in January, from Marvel Two-in-One writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Carlos Magno. Unfortunately, the group won't be reuniting on happy terms as Captain America, Winter Soldier, Toro, and the original Human Torch Jim Hammond will be fighting their former brother-in-arm Namor.

Announced by Marvel.com, the series looks to be an ongoing one. The series seems to take place after recent events in The Avengers where Namor not only turned heel but killed a hero named Stingray, who may not be an A-list superhero but was a good person and didn't deserve to die like that. Expect an epic battle between Cap and Namor, though it is odd how Avengers, of all titles, is setting this story up.

Namor the Submariner has always been an anti-hero so him becoming a full-blown villain is a bit odd. Sure, he has always had issues with us surface dwellers but the fact that he would kill a good guy like Stingray, who offered to talk things out, was a genuine shocker. He's also teaming up with Tigershark, a fairly minor villain, so that should be interesting.

What's odd about Namor's turn to the dark side is that he will be teaming up with Hulk, Doctor Strange, and The Silver Surfer as part of the original Defenders. It's only a mini-series, though it will be interesting to see how these heroes react to his recent actions.

You can see Namor turn heel in Avengers #9, which is now available in stores. Invaders #1 will come out in January 2019.
