The Avengers Campus at Disneyland Resort might not be in any way part of the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige says that the theme park is the next step in Marvel storytelling.
Speaking in an interview for a featurette for Avengers Campus (via ComicBook.com), the Marvel Chief Creative Officer declared the Marvel theme park as "absolutely the next progression" of storytelling. While the theme park isn't exactly a Marvel movie, Feige believes that Avengers Campus can help bring Marvel's stories to the Marvel fanbase.
"Going to Disneyland, that's what we did as a family, going on these amazing rides that promised a spectacular future ahead," Feige said in the featurette. "The notion of having films that I was a part of brought to life is amazing."
Sure, it might not be part and parcel of Phase 4 of the MCU, but Avengers Campus sure does sound like it'll help supplement and satiate fans as they wait for the next batch of Marvel movies.
According to Marvel Studios Executive Vice President of Production, Victoria Alonso, President of Walt Disney Imagineering Bob Weis and his team "have in their hands the capability of lifting our spirits, to take us to the place of dreaming, and the little kid in us can come out and play and be entertained."
Marvel fans visiting Disneyland Resort is definitely going to want to make a pit stop at Avengers Campus. The upcoming Marvel-themed area at Disney's theme parks is going to offer guests a "Superhero Campus" where fans can become their own kind of hero. Each area in Avengers Campus is going to offer different kinds of attractions that are interconnected by a common narrative.
Avengers Campus is expected to open in June 2021.
