Marvel President Kevin Feige Addresses Black Panther 2 Killmonger Rumors

Earlier this year, there have been rumors running up and down the mill saying that Michael B. Jordan may very well return to reprise his role as Erik Killmonger in Black Panther 2. Killmonger might not have been as powerful as Thanos, however, the estranged cousing of T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) ended up becoming a fan-favorite villain. Not only did fans and critics love Jordan's performance as Killmonger, they also loved the character's compelling backstory and motivation.

Now, speaking in an interview with BET to help promote Marvel's last film of the year, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige tries to address the rumors regarding Killmonger's return.

According to the Marvel producer, fans shouldn't expect Killmonger to appear in Black Panther 2 because the reports are nothing but rumors and speculation.

"The honest answer to that is that is pure rumor and speculation, because Mr. Coogler is just only in recent weeks sitting down at his keyboard and beginning to outline the movie," Feige told the publication, "It's early, so nothing is set yet in any way that far, because Mr. Coogler is sitting down and will share it with Nate Moore and myself in coming weeks."

Of course, in terms of storytelling, it wouldn't make sense for Killmonger to reappear in Black Panther 2. After all, Killmonger decided to kill himself after being defeated in the battle against his cousin in the original Black Panther movie. Resurrecting Killmonger would water down the significance of his death in the film.

Marvel's latest release, Spider-Man: Far From Home, premieres July 2, 2019.
