Marvel Interested in Cate Shortland to Direct Black Widow Movie

To the delight of many, Marvel seems to be moving forward with the heavily-rumored Black Widow movie, something fans have wanted since Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Actress Scarlett Johansson has also shown interest in the character's solo exploits and Marvel may have found the film's director; Cate Shortland.

Marvel is intent on getting a female director to helm the movie and Shortland is at the top of their shortlist (ha!). Amma Asante and Maggie Betts are also on the list of directors they want but Shortland still tops them, at least thus far.

Shortland has directed Lore and, most recently, Berlin Syndrome. This makes her an interesting choice, to say the least, and it will be interesting to see what she adds to the MCU, along with the character.

Natasha Romanov has received a fair amount of development throughout her appearances in the MCU. Starting out as eye-candy in Iron Man 2, Black Widow would be more prominent in Avengers, Winter Soldier, and Age of Ultron, where her past was detailed. Her solo film can switch between the past and present, using her past in the Red Room and maybe detail what happened in Budapest with Hawkeye.

We are that much closer to getting a Black Widow movie. Excited?
