Marvel Ends Old Man Logan With Issue 50

The minute an Old Man Logan ongoing series was announced, many assumed that it would be on borrowed time. Wolverine was dead at the time but most people knew he would come back and the Old Man version was likely put in the main canon to appease fans of the character, despite strong stories from Jeff Lemire and Ed Brisson.

Alas, that time will be coming in October when Marvel ends the series with Old Man Logan #50, which the solicitation hypes up as the "end of an era." Plus, Mike Deodato Jr. is drawing a final issue variant so if that doesn't spell out the series' future, I don't know what else does.

Marvel's solicitation for the issue (via Newsarama) states that the character is going to leave the world in the same way he came into it, so in pain. That was pretty much a given since the hero's always been a tragic character so things could only end this way. His other title, X-Men Gold, is also on the way out and he was kicked out of Weapon X by Sabretooth.

Originally an extended What If tale from Civil War creative team Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, Old Man Logan was brought into the main universe continuity after 2015's Secret Wars. They immediately started him off as a much darker version of Logan, who did everything he could to prevent his future from happening, even if it meant killing people who hadn't done anything wrong yet.

Readers will be able to get Old Man Logan #50 this October.
