Marvel Editor Posts Scrapped Dark Phoenix Designs

It looks like there was a lot of work done to find the right look for Jean Grey's ultimate transformation, Dark Phoenix.

Taking to Twitter, Marvel's Executive Editor and SVP of Publishing Tom Brevoort decided to share some scrapped costume designs for Marvel's Dark Phoenix. These designs were done by by Dave Cockrum, an American comic book artist known for the co-creation of newer X-Men characters like Storm, Colossus, and Nightcrawler.

"A few Dave Cockrum designs for what became the Phoenix costume, done as just an attempt to find a new costume for Marvel Girl. Dave did a lot of these," Brevoort explained in his tweet.

Check out the alternate designs for Dark Phoenix here:

These aren't the only designs of course. In the following tweet, Brevoort shares more designs for Jean Gray/ Phoenix.

"Here are a bunch more Jean/Phoenix designs. The Phoenix costume was going to be white, but with the bad paper comics were printed on, EIC Archie Goodwin was afraid readers would be able to see the page on the other side through her figure," Brevoort wrote.

All of the alternate designs for Jean would have been lovely. It seems like Cockrum really took his time to get the right look for Jean's transformation. It would have been interesting to see some of these outfits make their way into X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
