Marvel & DC Crossover Movie In the Works? James Gunn Gives Promising Answer

If you are a big comic fan, you are aware that there have been numerous Marvel and DC crossovers in print, but a team-up on the big screen has yet to happen and shock the superhero movie industry. Despite how many fan-made images tend to imagine this crossover, it still wouldn't amount to the real thing once it happens. Now that James Gunn is in charge of the DC Studios, the two major franchises uniting for a motion picture is a ten-to-one situation. All that fans have to look out for is when exactly it is going to take place, and the writer-director offered an exciting answer to Empire Magazine.

“I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge [at DC]. Who knows?” he said. “That’s many years away, though. I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.”

Gunn first raised the idea of onscreen collaboration between the two studios in 2021, stating that he had presented the crossover to both organizations, and they were enthusiastic about making it happen. On the other hand, Marvel’s boss Kevin Feige also shared that his answer will always be open and welcoming to these crossover possibilities.

Based on Gunn’s answer, the crossover is unlikely to happen this year or in three or five years because Marvel Studios has already published its line-up till 2026, with Phase 5 continuing with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The rest of the slate includes The Marvels, Captain America: New World Order, Thunderbolts, and Blade on the big screen, and Secret Invasion, Loki Season 2, Ironheart, What If...? Season 2, Echo, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and Daredevil: Born Again.

Meanwhile, DC is now rebuilding itself under Gunn, which is expected to showcase more of just DC offerings, starting with Superman: Legacy, and leading up to the entire slate of Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters: The Authority, a Batman project titled The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing reboot, a Wonder Woman prequel series titled Paradise Lost, the animated series Creature Commandos, a series centered on Amanda Waller, a Green Lantern series titled Lanterns, and an untitled series about Booster Gold.

Once the on-screen MCU and DCU crossover happen, fans will be there to support it.
