Marvel Celebrates Black History Month With Free Black Panther Screenings

Marvel fans are in for a treat this month. Starting this weekend, Marvel Studios will be screening Black Panther in cinemas for free thanks to a partnership between AMC Theatres and the Walt Disney Company.

A press release regarding the week-long Black Panther free screening event was just distributed this morning. More than 250 theatres in the AMC chain is going to participate for the first week of February, allowing fans to celebrate Black History month with Marvel's ground breaking comic book movie.

In his statement regarding the partnership, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that the company hopes that they'll be able to inspire future generations by giving everyone a chance to see Marvel's critically-acclaimed Black Panther standalone movie.

"‘Black Panther' is groundbreaking for many reasons, including the rich diversity of voices behind its success," Iger's statement read, "The story also showcases the power of knowledge to change the world for the better, and the importance of ensuring everyone has access to it. We're proud to provide thousands of free screenings of ‘Black Panther' in hopes it will continue to inspire audiences, and to support UNCF with a $1.5 million grant to make the dream of higher education a reality for more students."

$1.5 million is a whole lot of money that's going to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and that's all thanks to Black Panther.

A critically-acclaimed comic book movie, Black Panther broke ground in the comic book movie industry. Not only was the film the first standalone film for Chadwick Boseman's King of Wakanda, but it was also Marvel's first all-black superhero movie.

Boseman is set to reprise his role as Black Panther in Avengers: Endgame which premieres on April 26.
