As fans wait for What If…? Season 3, Marvel announces a new interactive project that will take viewers to a different reality. In collaboration with ILM Immersive, the studio unveils What If…? – An Immersive Story, a new app exclusively for Apple Vision Pro.
What If…? An Immersive Story is the first-ever interactive Disney+ original story that allows fans to enter the Multiverse.
Here, they can dive into the immersive, narrative-driven, and innovative story in mixed reality.
It will feature the events across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, let viewers take on the lead real role, and travel across the realities.
In this one-hour journey, they can interact with their favourite Multiversal variants, learn the mystic arts with the help of Wong, and control the power of the Infinity Stones.
“What If…? – An Immersive Story … allows you to visit these strange new worlds, not as a Watcher but as an actual participant,” executive producer Brad Winderbaum said in a press release. “The creative work on this project is nothing less than stellar, and we could not be more excited for fans to interact firsthand with some of their favourite Marvel heroes.”
With Apple Vision Pro’s spatial computing capabilities, this immersive story will give fans a technologically advanced experience like no other.
As the lead character, you will cross between augmented and virtual reality and explore the new and iconic MCU locations through your hands and eyes.
“This experience is truly groundbreaking and unlike anything we’ve done before,” executive producer Jamie Voris, EVP/Chief Technology Officer at The Walt Disney Studios, added. “It's an exciting new way to become a part of the MCU through a deeply emotional and compelling story.”
This isn’t the first time Disney and Apple have teamed up to give fans a next-level virtual reality experience.
Disney released a Disney+ app for Apple Vision Pro at the same time as its release. It features several films from the franchise, including Avengers: Endgame, which can be viewed in 3D through the headset.
When will What If…? Season 3 be released?
After the final episode of What If…? Season 2 was released on December 30, 2023, Marvel Studios released a sneak peek for What If…? Season 3, confirming the show’s return.
The three-minute video features Winter Soldier, the Red Guardian, Bill Foster, and Ranger Morales.
Of course, this instantly excites fans, with some wondering when it will finally be released.
In an interview with ComicBook’s Phase Zero podcast, director Bryan Andrews revealed that the new season of the animated series could be released at the end of the year on Disney+.
However, fans should note that this isn’t official yet, with Andrews adding that it could be a “tight” deadline.
“There's some other group of people that are masterminding when things [release], and they're moving things on the board, and I don't know where we exist on that at this moment,” he explained.
Whatever the case is, what is important is What If…? Season 3 will come out soon.
