Marvel has admirably been pushing their digital comics initiative for a while now, with recent examples like Iron Fists, Cloak and Dagger, and Spidey: School's Out providing plenty of fun adventures for experienced fans and casuals alike. However, these were Comixology exclusives, at least until they got graphic novels, and the company seems to be moving away from that with their new Digital Originals.
The first title that will come from Marvel's Digital Originals - or MDO as the company has coined it - will be a new Jessica Jones mini-series from Hawkeye writer Kelly Thompson and artist Mattia de Lulis. According to IGN, Thompson was chosen by former Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis, who co-created Jones with Michael Gaydos, so if that isn't a ringing endorsement I don't know what is.
Unlike regular print comics, which have 20 story pages unless double-sized, MDO comics will have 40 "story pages" per issue. These aren't actual pages of course but it's nice to know that these stories will be meaty for digital readers.
Jessica Jones #1 is available for download now on both Comixology and Marvel's website. The story will be called Blindspot, which will revolve around one of Jones' clients dying and her taking the blame for it.
