Netflix's newest mini-series, Baby Reindeer, is based on the real-life stalker of the show's creator/writer/actor, Richard Gadd.

The story introduced viewers to Martha Scott, an ex-lawyer who became a convicted serial stalker prior to meeting Gadd's fictional character, Donny Dunn.

Because of how well Jessica Gunning's character was written, fans wondered who the real Martha Scott was. But as Gadd revealed, the real identity of his stalker remains a secret.

In an interview, Gadd shared:

"We’ve gone to such great lengths to disguise her to the point that I don’t think she would recognize herself."

Baby Reindeer's Martha Scott was "not a fact-by-fact profile of someone," which means that they've concealed parts about her identity or profession.

It's possible that Gadd decided to keep his stalker's real identity secret for legal purposes and to avoid potentially re-igniting the flame.

But as the writer shared, he did it because "I saw someone who was unwell, needed help, [and] was quite vulnerable. I wasn't dealing with someone who felt calculated or insidious."

He also told another publication:

“She needs help, but she’s not getting any."

Despite Gadd's decision and attempt to conceal the identity of his stalker, internet sleuths believe they've found out who the real Martha Scott is.

Some have dug deep into social media and found tweets and posts referencing Richard Gadd's promise to "hang the curtains" from around the time he was stalked.

Again, these are just allegations from online sleuths who dug deep into social media.
But do we know for sure that Martha Scott is a real person? Here are some fan theories.

At this point, we can only speculate who the real Martha Scott is. There are even some fans who think that she could be a man in real life, which explains Gadd's experience with abuse in the show.

Some theories also suggest the whole thing is fake and that there really is no Martha Scott.

But more importantly, fans want to figure out who Gadd's real abuser, Darrien, is.
