Mark Hamill's Star Wars Moment in What We Do In The Shadows was Not Planned

One of the highlights of What We Do in the Shadows Season 2 was undoubtedly the guest appearance of Mark Hamill. After all, Jim the Vampire had this hilarious Star Wars moment in the series that made the character even more hilarious. However, it has just been revealed that the lightsaber reference was not planned at all. In fact, it was improvised by Hamill himself.

The cast and crew of What We Do in the Shadows recently reunited for the show's virtual panel at Comic-Con@Home. During the panel, co-producers Stefani Robinson and Paul Simms revealed that although it would have made sense to make Hamill use a pool cue as a lightsaber during the confrontation with Lazlo, they never planned for it all.

"That was one of those things that I think happened on set, if I'm not mistaken," Robinson said. "It was the stunt coordinators who came up with it while they were rehearsing, and I think maybe it was a little bit of the director Yana [Gorskaya], who did an awesome job directing that episode. That was something that was designed for that specific space when they were sort of blocking it all out."

Simms was quick to add that it was Hamill who ended up picking up the pool cue to use as a weapon.

"I think when we originally blocked it all out, we were just trying to think of all the ways they could fight. We thought, ‘Oh, then maybe they'll hit pool cues at each other.' And then when it was on the day, and we were shooting it, and you saw Mark Hamill pick up the pool cue, everyone on set went ‘Oh my god!'" he said.

We're loving how it all worked out for the crew and we're hoping Hamill shares his thoughts about the idea.
