The Star Wars, Star Trek, and Guardians of the Galaxy franchises have a lot of things in common and it doesn't take a genius to figure out what those similarities actually are. In fact, they're very alike, so much so that the United States Military's Space Force is now capitalizing on their popularity, taking the opportunity to jam all three pop culture juggernauts together for one of their promotional materials.

It all started when Defense One's Global Business Editor Marcus Weisgerber announced on Twitter that the uniform members of the U.S. Space Force will be officially referred to as "Guardians" moving forward.

Obviously, that is a direct reference to Marvel's GOTG franchise and director James Gunn was having none of it. Reposting the tweet on his official page, Gunn was calling for them to get sued. We're not quite sure if he actually means it but there's that.

Star Wars veteran Mark Hamill also sounded off and slammed the post for ripping off the beloved Sci-Fi franchises. Posting the official banner of the U.S. Space Force on his Twitter, Hamill took a jab at the campaign for incorporating elements of Star Wars, Star Trek, and GOTG. "So they grab the "Guardians" from your movies, they use the "Force" from our movies... then they have the gall to just steal their logo from "Star Trek"? Let's file a 3-way joint lawsuit & really nail these larcenous bastards! #MayTheDorksBeWithYou"

The U.S. Space Force has some explaining to do for sure and I don't even think they're even allowed to make the move since the references they used are probably already trademarked. On the bright side though, this just goes to show how relevant and influential the three Sci-Fi franchises really are. Maybe they can just talk things out without having to take matters into court.

Meanwhile, all episodes of The Mandalorian Season 2 are streaming on Disney+.
