Mark Hamill Shows Concern Regarding Star Wars Over-Saturation

There has been a lot of Star Wars movies in recent years. Previously, the franchise was seen as a slow burn one, with the first six movies released in the span of 28 years. However, ever since Disney bought Lucasfilm and the Star Wars license we have seen three movies in three years, with a fourth one, Solo: A Star Wars Story, coming out this May.

Many fans are fearing that the franchise will get oversaturated soon and one of those concerned is actually Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill.

Speaking with CinemaBlend, the actor revealed that he was surprised that Solo was coming out five months after The Last Jedi. Hamill questioned why the film wasn't saved for Christmas like the previous films, including fellow spin-off Rogue One. The actor admitted that it wasn't his hill to die on but he makes a good point.

"I will say they should pace themselves, because you don't want to over-saturate it. I said to Disney, 'Really? Five months after we come out comes [Solo: A Star Wars Story]? Can't you at least wait until Christmas?' But they've got things booked - they're doing Marvel and their own movies, so that's beyond my [purview.]"

While it the franchise would feel fresher if it came out less, it's worth noting that Disney releases an MCU film every year and they always seem to do well. Granted, they all aren't as fresh as Black Panther but the various heroes under the Marvel banner do make each new installment feel different.

Though the current set of Star Wars films still focuses on the legacy of previous movies, the new trilogy from Rian Johnson might change that. Who knows?

Solo: A Star Wars Story comes out on May 25.
