Mark Hamill Reacts To Observatory Getting R2-D2 Make-Over

It's no secret that Star Wars has inspired millions of people in the past few decades. Interestingly, one professor decided to pay tribute to the franchise by painting an observatory and turning it into a gigantic R2-D2 replica. Not surprisingly, Mark Hamill is loving the tribute to his character's beloved droid.

According to Laughing Squid, professor Hubert Zitt, who works for the Zweibrücken Observatory of the National Science Association in Germany, noticed that the structure looks a lot like the Star Wars mecha droid. Being a huge Star Wars fan, Zitt enlisted his own father-in-law and a few students to help him give the observatory a major makeover. Today, the observatory looks like an R2-D2 replica, albeit one that doesn't beep and chirp.

It didn't take long before the news reached Hamill. The Star Wars: Episode IX star immediately shared the news on Twitter along with a hilarious caption. Take a look at his tweet below.

"R2-D2 Observatory Transformed Germans Into Giant Nerds," Hamill wrote as his suggested headline. Needless to say, we're all hoping to visit the Zweibrücken Observatory just to see Artoo up close.

R2-D2 certainly deserves the tribute considering that the little droid has played a huge role in Star Wars for several years. After all, Artoo and C-3PO are somehow the reason why Luke found Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope, kicking off an unforgettable adventure that would span several decades. They have even shown up in the prequel trilogy and had a small yet memorable appearance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. We are once again looking forward to seeing the droids (perhaps for the last time) in Episode IX.

Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for release on December 20.
