Mark Hamill May Have Confirmed His Force Ghost Appearance In Star Wars: Episode IX

While Star Wars fans were pretty surprised when Lucasfilm revealed that Mark Hamill would be reprising his role as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker despite the sacrifice the Jedi Master made in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, everyone guessed that Luke would either appear in a flashback, or he would appear as a Force Ghost in Episode IX.

Now, it looks Star Wars legend Mark Hamill himself may have just confirmed Luke's state in The Rise of Skywalker. Taking to Twitter, Hamill decided to share the poster for Episode IX that Disney dropped during this year's D23 Expo over the weekend, and the actor added in a pretty interesting hashtag in his post - #LukeTheSpook.

From the looks of the hashtag, we might really get to see Luke as a Force Ghost in Episode IX, though we're not quite entirely sure how many scenes the Jedi Master might be in, or whether he'll get any sequence at all – after all Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan did make a short return in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, reading a few lines in a Force vision in The Force Awakens.

Still, we're hoping to see Luke get a Force Ghost appearance like Yoda's in The Last Jedi. This way we get to see Luke guide Rey (Daisy Ridley) as she continues her journey in the Force. That, or we get to see Luke torment the conflicted Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). We're still hoping that the estranged son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia (the late Carrie Fisher) finds his own path to redemption.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
