Coming off the high of the Oscar-winning Barbie movie, Margot Robbie is poised to bring her golden touch to a movie adaptation of The Sims.
Reporter Jeff Sneider, writing in The InSneider and citing sources (paywall), claims Margot Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment has teamed up with The Sims publisher Electronic Arts and ignited a bidding war as studios look to replicate the almost $1.5 billion success of Barbie.
There will, however, be no teaming up with Greta Gerwig this time around. Sneider claims Kate Herron, who directed Disney Plus hit show Loki, will be in the chair. There is no cast yet attached to the movie.
Video game adaptations have recently become a hot ticket, with Sonic The Hedgehog from Paramount grossing $319 million worldwide and the Chris Pratt-led Super Mario Bros. Movie netting Universal a cool $1.3 billion.
Barbie not only made a lot of money, but it was also well-received, nominated for eight Oscars and winning one for Best Original Song (I’m Just Ken).
At the Critics Choice Awards, Barbie won Best Comedy, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Song. The movie did, however, lose out to its box office rival, Oppenheimer, on the Best Picture award at the award show.
Margot Robbie and LuckyChap are making a name for themselves as one of the most bankable production companies in Hollywood. Besides Barbie, they also produced Saltburn and recently sold comedy My Old Ass to MGM Amazon.
