Man of Steel Trends Again After Chloe Zhao Cites Zack Snyder Film as Eternals Inspiration

There is little doubt that Eternals is a stunning film regardless of what its current rating is on Rotten Tomatoes. But does the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick truly borrow some of its key points from a Zack Snyder movie? Director Chloe Zhao has just admitted that her version of Ikaris was greatly inspired by Man of Steel. Not surprisingly, the revelation has caused the Superman film to trend on social media all over again.

Man of Steel had already trended on Twitter after fans declared that it is one of the best Superman movies ever made. Since then, people who watched Eternals have noted that there are similarities between Henry Cavill's Kal-El and Richard Madden's Ikaris.

When asked if the Eternal inspired that version of Superman, Zhao was quick to point out that it is actually vice versa.

"You said it, not me! Superman is the Übermensch, the ultimate man, the superman, a concept that exists in all cultures. Of all modern interpretations of Superman, this is Zack Snyder's with Man Of Steel which inspired me the most because he approached this myth in an authentic and very real way," Zhao told Purebreak.

"I remember thinking it was Superman by Terrence Malick when I saw the trailer. This film left a strong impression on me. But Ikaris is, of course, our own take on Superman," she concluded.

It's great to know that Zhao was inspired by one of Snyder's underrated works and not surprisingly, this has led to Man of Steel trending on Twitter again.

Eternals doesn't just get inspiration from Superman. In the film, Phastos' son mistakes Ikaris for the Man of Steel. It's an awesome reference that doesn't go unnoticed and fans are loving how Clark Kent somehow becomes an Easter egg in the movie.

Eternals follows a group of superpowered beings who have lived on Earth for thousands of years. When the Deviants attack the planet again, the Eternals must spring into action and save humanity from one of their own.

The film also stars Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Harish Patel, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie. Eternals is now screening in theaters.
