Ahead of the film’s release, the heroine of Makoto Shinkai’s next film Suzume no Tojimari has been announced. The announcement was made via the film’s official website.
Shinkai’s highly anticipated movie features Nanoka Hara as the voice of the main character Suzume Iwato. Hara was chosen among the 1,700 applicants in auditions for the role.
Suzume no Tojimari is Hara’s first voice acting role for an anime, but she has appeared in several movies and shows.
Some of her recent credits include Mayu Hasebe in the high school drama film Mune ga Narunoha Kimi no Sei and Hikari Sagara in the drama series Guilty Flag 2.
Hara also starred in the 2013 live-action adaptation of xxxHOLiC. In the series, she played the role of the young Himawari Kunogi.
In the announcement of her casting, Hara shared how it feels like a dream for her to be cast as Suzume Iwato. She mentioned how she feels the pressure as a big fan of Shinkai’s previous films. Though she still feels excited about the role.
Meanwhile, director Shinkai praised Hara’s ability to convey emotions through her voice. He also said he can’t wait to see the rest of her performance.
Suzume no Tojimari is the next movie by renowned anime film director, Makoto Shinkai. This movie follows on the heels of Shinkai’s Weathering With You and Your Name, two critically-acclaimed anime films.
Shinkai’s next movie follows Suzume, a 17-year-old girl living in a town in Kyushu.
Suzume meets a young man who is looking for a mysterious door which they find at an abandoned house in the mountains. But as Suzume reaches out towards the door, she is pulled in.
Following this, other mysterious doors being appearing all over Japan, sparking a wave of disasters. Because of this, Suzume must journey across the country and lock the doors to prevent further mayhem.
Suzume no Tojimari will release in Japanese cinemas on November 11, 2022. The film will then release in theaters internationally in early 2023.
