Makoto Shinkai New Film Suzume no Tajimari Confirmed for International Theatrical Release

Makoto Shinkai's latest film will hit international theaters a lot sooner than expected! Crunchyroll has just announced that Suzume no Tajimari is getting an international release soon after its premiere in Japan this year!

Crunchyroll dropped the announcement confirming that Suzume no Tojimari will get an international theatrical release. The streaming service is working in coordination with Sony Pictures and Wild Bunch International to bring Makoto Shinkai's new movie to cinemas around the globe. However, the film has not yet been confirmed for release in Asia.

This is great news for fans of Shinkai's work and Suzume no Tojimari is expected to do as well as his previous films. The movie does have big shoes to fill considering that Your Name is currently the third highest-grossing anime film of all time. In addition to that, Weathering with You became the highest-grossing Japanese film of 2019 and the sixth highest-grossing anime film of all time.

Suzume no Tojimari is one of the most anticipated anime movies right now. Although the film was expected to premiere in 2021, it was delayed due to COVID-19. Luckily, Shinkai's latest work is finally moving forward and will be released in Japan later this year.

Suzume no Tojimari will follow Suzume, a 17-year-old girl living in a quiet town in southwestern Japan. One day, her life is turned around as she meets a young man who says he is looking for a "door". Suzume joins him on his search and together they find an old door at an abandoned house in the mountains. When Suzume reaches out her hand towards the door and is pulled in, pathways that are known as "Doors of Disaster" begin to appear across the country and start a series of unfortunate disasters.

The film will premiere in Japan on November 11, 2022. Suzume no Tojimari is then set for global release in early 2023.
