After House of X and Powers of X, the X-Men finally got their own nation away from humanity and united all of the mutants together, the good and bad ones. Unsurprisingly, Magneto and his friend Charles Xavier were in charge of the mutant nation Krakoa, at least until Xavier was killed during the events of X-Force. As we wait for Charles' resurrection, since the mutants have a way of bringing their own kind back, Magneto is in charge and he has to be diplomatic with those filthy humans.
Current X-Men mastermind Jonathan Hickman is teaming up with artist Ben Oliver to show how Magneto acts as a leader who has to think outside of himself in Giant-Size X-Men: Magneto, the second one-shot that showcases some X-Men written by Hickman and drawn by various artists. The first one, Giant-Size X-Men: Jean Grey and Emma Frost, will be coming out this February.
Here's what artist Ben Oliver had to say about the one-shot (via Marvel.com):
"It's been many years since I last worked on an X-Men related project, and I couldn't be happier than to be working with Jonathan. I've long been a fan of Jonathan's work, and Magneto as a character, so to collaborate on this project is fantastic."
Considering how each of the current X-Men titles have proven to be important in the overall arc of Hickman's grand mutant story, we're sure that the stories from Giant-Size X-Men: Magneto will give us something great. While both House of X and Powers of X have been criticized for their use of some characters, Magneto has stayed the same and is a constant highlight whenever he appears.
No release date for Giant-Size Magneto #1 has been revealed, though we can assume that a March 2020 release is likely.
