Magic: The Gathering Theory Reveals What Niv-Mizzet is Doing

Wizards of the Coast

Niv-Mizzet, the draconic leader of the Izzet League, is one of the most interesting characters in Magic: The Gathering's plane of Ravnica but fans are wondering what he's up to. With the release of Guilds of Ravnica, the story puts focus on Ravnica as Nicol Bolas takes over the City of Guilds. It turns out that Niv-Mizzet disappeared, and now, Tumblr user Ajani-on-the-Spot has shared an interesting theory about where Niv-Mizzet actually went.

According to the theory, Niv-Mizzet duplicated himself, and he pointed out Izzet's duplicate technology as a clue:

So where did Niv-Mizzet go?

The theory claims that he actually Planeswalked.

"I believe that Niv-Mizzet made a bunch of copies of himself, The Prestige-style, SPECIFICALLY TO FIND a duplicate that had a spark," Ajani-on-the-spot explains. "Then THAT copy gets to "be" Niv Mizzet, the others do away with themselves, and Niv Mizzet, Artifical Planeswalker, goes off to feel pleased with himself for a bit on Ulgrotha or something."

So we might see a Niv-Mizzet Planeswalker card in the third Ravnica set, the one after Ravnica Allegiance. After all, that set is said to shake things up as it will focus more on the story rather than the guilds.
