Magic: The Gathering Showcase 2021 Will Announce 2022 Sets and More

Wizards of the Coast will announce the upcoming slate of 2022 plans for Magic: The Gathering next month. On Thursday morning, the publisher announced the MagicShowcase2021 event for August 24, which is scheduled to go live on the official Magic Twitch channel at 11 AM ET/8 AM PT.

Magic Showcase 2021 will feature both tabletop Magic: The Gathering and digital Magic Arena content, as well as a potential look at the upcoming Universes Beyond products, which will feature characters and franchises outside the lore of Magic.

Based on previous years' showcases, MTG fans can expect a roadmap of 2022 releases (specifically the Standard-legal sets and supplemental sets in between) along with a few other surprises.

Earlier this month, a website leaked details that suggest that Magic will be releasing expansions set in Kamigawa, then Dominaria next year. Last October, a leak revealed the title Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, which is said to feature a cyberpunk take on the plane inspired by Japanese mythology. If these details are legit, it's likely that Wizards will officially announce them in the Magic Showcase 2021.

The event might also give us our first look at the upcoming Magic: The Gathering Netflix animated series produced by Avengers: Infinity War directors, Joe and Anthony Russo.

2021 has been a great year for Magic so far. In the Q2 2021 earnings call, Hasbro revaeled that Wizards of the Coast's revenue "more than doubled", and that the mobile version of MTG Arena "exceeded all expectations".
