Magic: The Gathering Pro Seth Manfield Wins The 2020 Mythic Invitational


Magic: The Gathering pro player Seth Manfield has won the 2020 Mythic Invitational that took place over weekend, beating 160 other players in the four-day tournament and winning the largest share of the $250,000 prize pool and a spot for the Season Grand Final.

Manfield was 8th place when he qualified for the Top 8, and was the only Top 8 player running the Sultai Midrange Historic deck. Most of the Top 8 played red/black-based deck with aggressive sacrifice strategies like Jund Sacrifice, Rakdos Arcanist, and Jund Citadel.

Manfield had to fight his way in the lower bracket of the Top 8, defeating Ken Yukuhiro, David Steinberg, and Gregor Kowalski to make it to the championship finals against Gabriel Nasiff.

In the finals, Manfield was able to dominate the two best-of-three matches against Nasiff with his powerful cards like Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath, Nissa Who Shakes the World, Hydroid Krasis, and Elder Gargaroth to gain life, get card advantage, and take over the board against Nasiff's smaller creatures. He also had a good amount of boardwipe cards like Cry of Carnarium and Languish. Manfield also had a Disdainful Stroke and Grafdigger's Cage against Collected Company.

This is Manfield's third championship victory in a premier MTG event, an achievemement only a few MTG players accomplished. The 30-year-old American professional player won the 2015 Magic World Championship in addition to his 2017 Pro Tour Albuquerque win and his five Grand Prix wins. He was also voted into the MTG Hall of Fame in 2018.
