Magic: The Gathering October 2018 Ban & Restricted Announcement

Wizards of the Coast

It's that time of the year again: the official Magic: The Gathering banned and restricted announcement! If you're expecting for Rampaging Ferocidon to be unbanned in Standard or Ancient Stirrings to be banned in Modern, you're about to get disappointed because Wizards of the Coast has announced that there are no changes in any formats.

There are obviously no changes in Standard because a rotation is coming with the release of Guilds of Ravnica this weekend. I heard some players want to get Rampaging Ferocidon unbanned because they expect the format to be slower but too bad, that didn't happen.

For Modern, many players have been calling the ban of Ancient Stirrings or Krark-Clan Ironworks but the format's incredibly diverse meta in recent Grand Prix events showed that the decks that use those cards are not too dominant. Sure, the KCI deck's combo is hard to disrupt but it's still beatable. In fact, we included it in one of our Top 15 Most Annoying Modern Decks To Play Against.

For Legacy and Vintage: Eternal Weekend is coming soon so they're probably not comfortable at changing anything.

The latest Magic: The Gathering set Guilds of Ravnica will be released this Friday.
