Magic: The Gathering Commander Legends Art Sold For $22,000


Scott Murphy's new Magic: The Gathering artwork featured in the upcoming Commander Legends set set a new record for the artist on Friday night, October 30, 2020 when his oil painting of Opposition Agent sold for $22,000 in an auction.

Murphy's Opposition Agent is a work of oil on panel measuring 12 inches by 16. The card that features this art has been one of the most-talked about cards from Commander Legends because of its unique ability to control what your opponents search from their libraries

With Vorthos Mike as the agent for the artist, the auction for the Opposition Agent piece launched on the MTG Art Market Facebook group shortly after Wizards of the Coast officailly revealed the card. The associated charcoal sketch was also sold for $3,000 in the same night, and the auction for both the sketch and painting ran for four days.

Commander Legends product and events will be available on Magic Online on Thursday, November 19, 2020. The tabletop version will be released on Nov. 20.
