The newly-added Mastery Pass system in Magic: The Gathering Arena was met with criticisms for its daily limits but the new rewards system has another problem: It turns out that the Mastery Pass rewards cat has a glitch, leading to abuse of the bug and suspensions. According to user reports, the clicking the cat repeatedly caused the game to crash.
Some MTG Arena players have received temporary suspensions for taking advantage of the glitch but even some players who are unaware of the bug were also suspended for continuously clicking the cat (an optional companion aesthetic that's included for purchasing the Mastery Pass worth 3,400 gems in MTG Arena. The cat was designed to be clicked on and there's no limit to how many times you can click it.
Redditor JimBeammer was banned for five days after repeatedly clicking the cat while waiting for an opponent to make their move.
"When I'm not doing anything, I click the cat," the Redditor wrote. "Apparently there is a bug or something that makes me suspended for five days. I don't understand but I'm just a free-to-play scrub that had enough gems to buy a cat. I'm allergic to cats in real life so it was fun to pet this one."
The temporary suspension is disabling players from getting enough wins to gain XP in the Mastery system.
"I found myself fidgeting with it while waiting for ropers," another Redditor wrote. "Now I'm locked for five days. A warning of some sort would be nice if I had triggered something. How about disabling it, if it is useless other than creating a bug?"
Wizards of the Coast has yet to address the issue to the MTG community so right now, it's probably best not to click the Mastery Pass cat repeatedly.
