Magic: ManaStrike Terminated in Less Than A Year After Its Launch

Back in January 2020, Netmarble Games launched Magic: ManaStrike for Android and iOS device in cooperation with Wizards of the Coast. The mobile game was based on Wizards of the Coast's popular Magic: The Gathering trading card game, and it's the developer's first game in the Magic universe.

However, in just less than a year after its launch, the Management Team has announced a termination notice in the official forum of the game.

"It's with a heavy heart that we announce that support for Magic: ManaStrike is coming to an end. As of now, all in-app purchases for payment products will be disabled. The game servers will remain open until February 24th at 12:00 AM 2/23/2021 21:00 PST. You will be able to continue to access and play the game as usual until this time. Afterward, game service will no longer be available," the announcment said.

The strategy elements of ManaStrike are more similar to games like Clash Royale than the MTG card game. Similar to Magic: the Gathering Arena, the free-to-play mobile game offers both an in-game currency (gold) and a premium currrency (gems). Digital cards are still part of the gameplay experience, as you can use them to summon units and cast spells on the battlefield.

ManaStrike features a story in Magic's multiverse, as its plot involves "Tyrant of Worlds", Nicol Bolas creating a parallel universe as he tries to find a weakness that can kill the planeswalkers, so this is probably set before the events of War of the Spark, if this story is considered canon.
