Ma Dong Seok is reaping the fruit of his hard work in The Outlawsfranchise’s newest film, The Roundup.

Released on May 18, The Roundup explores the story of Ma Seok Do and the police station’s violent crimes squad. As usual, they are tasked to stop and eradicate crimes in the country.

But in the latest film, they are also challenged to beat Kang Hae Sang, a supervillain who has been doing crimes in Vietnam.

The Roundup Reaches New Milestone

Only a few weeks after its release, The Roundup already beat the original The Outlaws film by surpassing the 6.8 million moviegoers the first flick recorded.

At the same time, it also beat Parasite’s record.

The Korean Film Council announced that on June 6, 9:00 a.m. KST, the film reached 9 million moviegoers. It hit the mark faster than the award-winning Parasite.

The Roundup made the impressive record despite the fact that it was released amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Parasite, meanwhile, brought glory to South Korea before the pandemic happened.

“We never imagined that we would receive such an amazing response and so much warm support after the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you so much to all the moviegoers who went to see ‘The Outlaws 2,’ and if you haven’t seen it yet, we hope that you’ll watch it and get rid of your stress and the summer heat,” The Roundup cast members and staff said.

Ma Dong Seok’s New Movie Became Most-Watched Film in 2022 So Far

It was not The Roundup’s only recognition so far.

Last month, Korea Herald disclosed that The Outlaws 2 became the biggest hit film in 2022 as of press time after garnering 6.5 million audiences.

The Korean Film Council added that it beat Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which has a 5.75 million audience since its release in May.It also became the most-watched Korean film since the disaster movie Ashfall in 2019. The latter had a total of 8.25 million overall.
