Lyra Returns in New Trailer for His Dark Materials Season 2

The Golden Compass movie may have botched the adaptation of Philip Pullman's classic novels, but HBO and the BBC were able to give it new life with His Dark Materials. The second season is set to premiere this fall and we have a new trailer thanks to Comic-Con@Home.

Here's the official description:

His Dark Materials stars Dafne Keen, James McAvoy, Ruth Wilson and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Adapting Philip Pullman's award-winning trilogy of the same name, which is considered a modern masterpiece of imaginative fiction, the first season follows Lyra, a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Her search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets Will, a determined and courageous boy. Together, they encounter extraordinary beings and dangerous secrets, with the fate of both the living — and the dead — in their hands.

With each seasons said to be following an entry in the book series, this second one looks to be covering the events of The Subtle Knife. As you can see, we're finally going to meet Andrew Scott's Colonel John Parry, as he's only hinted at heavily in the first season.

I have to admit, His Dark Materials actually starts out kind of slow as a series, but eventually gets better toward the final episodes. The world is definitely fascinating, but you can kind of tell that the budget is used sparingly, that's why we barely get to see the daemons in some scenes. Either way, I'm interested to see where the story goes, and Dafne Keen's Lyra is a protagonist to root for.

His Dark Materials Season 2 hits HBO this fall.
