Lupin the 3rd: The First is Getting a US Theatrical Release Later This Year

Anime fans were pretty excited when Lupin the 3rd: The First was announced, giving us a lovely CGI remake of the classic series. While some fans have mixed thoughts about the CGI, Japan has managed to master the animation style, giving us facial expressions so good that Pixar can't replicate them. No joke, check out the trailer for Lupin or watch Dragon Quest: Your Story on Netflix to see how pretty these movies can be.

It looks like the folks at GKIDS were able to secure US and Canadian theatrical releases for the movie, which will not only include the subbed version for weeaboos but a new English dub as well. We're glad that they're giving us options and it's going to be fun seeing who of our favorite voice actors gets a role in the dubbed version.

The iconic "gentleman thief" Lupin III returns in an action-packed, continent-spanning adventure, as Lupin III and his colorful underworld companions race to uncover the secrets of the mysterious Bresson Diary before it falls into the hands of a dark cabal that will stop at nothing to resurrect the Third Reich. The gang undertakes trap-filled tombs, aerial escapades and daring prison escapes with the trademark wit and visual finesse that have made LUPIN THE 3RD one of the most storied animation franchises in the world, in a thrilling new caper that is sure to delight fans old and new.

No release date for Lupin the 3rd: The First was given, due to the whole Coronavirus epidemic. It will likely come out much later in the year when things have calmed down. Hopefully. Let's all hope for the best.
