Lucasfilm Wants Children Of Blood And Bone Film As First Non-Star Wars Movie Since Disney Acquisition

There is little doubt that Lucasfilm is best known for two successful franchises: Star Wars and Indiana Jones. After all, the production company has been steadily working on these two major properties since it was acquired by Disney in 2012. However, it looks like Lucasfilm has found its first non-Star Wars movie for the first time in almost seven years.

According to Deadline, Disney has decided to begin developing the film adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone, a novel written by Tomi Adeyemi and one of the properties of Fox 2000. The report confirms that the House of Mouse has enlisted This is Us writer Kay Oyegun to work on the screenplay for the upcoming film. In addition to that, it was revealed that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is interested in producing the movie.

If Lucasfilm gets the approval of Disney, this could mean that Children of Blood and Bone will be the company's first film that isn't in the least connected to Star Wars and Indiana Jones. It's certainly a welcome idea considering that the novel is an amazing fantasy set in a truly rich landscape.

The book follows Zélie Adebola, a woman with magical abilities who lives in the land of Orïsha where magic used to thrive. However, Zélie soon realizes that magic can return to her land as she meets Amari, the daughter of King Saran. Together, they might find out how to bring magic back for good.

Children of Blood and Bone will be directed by Rick Famuyiwa. The film has not yet been given an official release date.
