Lucasfilm Told Mark Hamill Not To Get His Hopes Up Over Luke’s Star Wars Return

Star Wars legend Mark Hamill might still be hoping that Luke Skywalker might return in Star Wars: Episode IX after his poetic and poignant death in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but it looks like Lucasfilm wants to let the reality of Luke's passing settle before doing anything.

Speaking with Sway's Universe about the fate of Luke Skywalker, Hamill joked about not getting his hopes up over the possibility of the Jedi Master's return.

"Lucasfilm said, 'Don't get your hopes up, you're dead. Get used to it.' But I'm just having fun," Hamill said. "If you can't have fun making Star Wars movies, there's something seriously wrong with you. I just get up and laugh all day."

Luke might have faded into the Force in The Last Jedi, but Hamill's been regularly joking that Luke didn't really pass away, instead joining a nudist colony somewhere in Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away. Some Star Wars fans aren't ready to let go of Luke either and some are still hoping to see the Jedi Master in the third and final chapter of Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy.

Of course, despite the public demand, Lucasfilm still has the final say on whether or not Luke might come back as a Force Ghost or flashback in Episode IX.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently available on Digital HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD. Star Wars: Episode IX is set to premiere December 20, 2019.
