Lucasfilm might say that it doesn't have any plans of releasing films based on books or comic books from Star Wars: The High Republic, but it looks like the studio is planning to produce a videogame based on the golden Star Wars era.
According to a report by MXDWN, rumor has it that Lucasfilm is preparing to develop a Star Wars virtual reality videogame set during The High Republic. There aren't that many details about what the company has planned for the project, but we're excited to see what kind of tie-in VR game the studio might produce for the golden era of the Jedi in Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away.
Fans shouldn't be too concerned, of course. This isn't Lucasfilm's first foray into VR gaming. Last year, ILMxLAB released a three-part VR experience called Vader Immortal: A Star Wars Series. Set after the events of Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, the videogame allows fans to visit Vader's planet on Mustafar and come face-to-face with the iconic hard-breathing Star Wars villain. Though the videogame offered very little in terms of control, fans loved playing around in the lightsaber dojo in Vader Immortal.
We can only imagine what kind of simulations The High Republic's tie-in videogame might offer. Maybe we'd get a game that would train would-be Jedi. We might get even get a game offering Jedi missions.
Of course, as with any rumor, we advise fans to take this report with a grain of salt. Let's wait and see whether Lucasfilm really is going to produce a VR game for The High Republic.
Star Wars: The High Republic begins in August 2020.
