Star Wars fans were thrilled when Lucasfilm allowed Grand Admiral Thrawn to join Star Wars canon by introducing the character in season 3 of Star Wars Rebels. The Chiss Imperial Officer had always been a fan favorite character among fans who followed Star Wars Legends, and having the character join Rebels helped enrich canon.

Now that Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels have both come to an end, new rumors have started circulating online saying that Lucasfilm may be preparing a live-action series for Thrawn.

According to a report by pop culture insider Daniel Richtman (via We Got This Covered), sources close to Lucasfilm say that the studio is planning to introduce Thrawn to Star Wars' live-action universe.

The Direct has been adding on to those rumors, saying that either Thrawn would be getting his own live-action series, or he would appear in a live-action sequel to Star Wars Rebels. Thrawn is reportedly going to appear alongside Ezra Bridger – the last time that we saw the two together in Rebels, Ezra had summoned the Purgil to destroy the Empire's fleet, taking away Thrawn's Star Destroyer from Lothal.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels producer Dave Filoni has confirmed that both characters survived, and Rebels ended with Ahsoka and Sabine going on a new journey to find Ezra in the Unknown Regions of the Galaxy far, far away.

With Ahsoka and Sabine being rumored for Star Wars: The Mandalorian, it comes as no surprise to hear reports saying that Thrawn and Ezra would follow closely behind.

Season 1 of The Mandalorian is available for streaming on Disney+.
