I think we can all agree that the Star Wars franchise has been thriving since Lucasfilm decided to expand the universe through Disney+. The unprecedented success of The Mandalorian has allowed the production company to explore more stories in a galaxy far, far away previously unbeknownst to fans.

One major project Star Wars diehards have been pretty excited about is The Acolyte, a series that boasts a powerhouse cast, including Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-Jae, Carrie-Anne Moss, Manny Jacinto, and Daphne Keen among others.

The show, set in the High Republic era is expected to come out sometime in 2024 but a shocking new rumor claims that Lucasfilm has given up on the project.

According to a report from Cosmic Book News, Lucasfilm has officially canceled The Acolyte, a series set roughly a century before the events of The Phantom Menace.

Key details about the show's rumored cancelation were not disclosed but the report also claims via Hollywood screenwriter Karman Pasha that showrunner Leslye Headland has been fired from the production company.

The report writes: "Sparrow confirmed, and this is not a rumor, this is their confirmation, that Leslye Hedland is no longer working with Lucasfilm. They’re no longer part of the company’s inner infrastructure. They’ve been removed."

"So the other thing they’ve confirmed is the part of the process of Leslie Headland no longer being an employee of Lucasfilm is that her Acolyte show – the mysterious Acolyte for which we never have a clear answer as to what they’re doing – The Acolyte show has been essentially put into, as Sparrow puts, it soft cancellation."

It's worth mentioning though that the outlet's original source, YouTuber Doom Cock hasn't had the best track record when it comes to insider information regarding Star Wars projects so it's still best to take this report with a Death Star-sized grain of salt.

It's hard to buy into this wild rumor because, for starters, the project just wrapped filming earlier this month. Additionally, reports circulated just last week that the show cast the franchise's first transgender actor in Abigail Thorn who will play the role of Ensign Eurus.

Star Wars: The Acolyte is currently slated to premiere on Disney+ in 2024.
