Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy Says That Next Star Wars Saga Will Last A Decade

Earlier this week, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that the Star Wars film franchise was going to go on a ‘hiatus' after the release of Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker later this year. While we're not quite certain when the film franchise will return with Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Beniofff's upcoming Star Wars film series and Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnsons' new Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm Presdent Kathleen Kennedy promises fans the next Star Wars saga is going to last a decade.

Speaking in an interview with Fandango's Erik Davis during this year's Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, Kennedy teased the future of the Star Wars film franchise.

"We're looking at stories that will span the next decade," Kennedy told the news outlet.

A decade might not be as long as the many, many years that the Skywalker saga has occupied, but a decade by decade approach may ensure that the franchise is going to stay fresh as it continues on with new stories and new characters.

While waiting for the Star Wars film franchise to return might sound like a challenge for fans, Lucasfilm is going to make sure that the fanbase will be kept busy with other Star Wars content while the saga takes a bit of a pause.

Right now, Lucasfilm is developing Jon Favreau's Star Wars: The Mandalorian for Disney's upcoming streaming service, Disney+. The series is set to feature the adventures of a lonely Mandalorian warrior in the edges of the galaxy far, far away.

The studio is also working on a new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel series featuring Diego Luna's Captain Cassian Andor and Alan Tudyk's K2-SO.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
