Lucasfilm May Announce Ewan McGregor’s Return As Obi-Wan At D23

There have been a lot of rumors going around about Lucasfilm considering an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, and while the project has never been officially confirmed, there's been a new report claiming that Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi prequel star Ewan McGregor has just recently signed on for a project for Lucasfilm.

The report which originated from Cinelinx noted that two separate sources told the site that the Trainspotting and Beauty and the Beast star had actually signed a contract to reprise his role as Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi. While this report has yet to be confirmed, speculation says that Lucasfilm may very well announce McGregor's return during Disney's D23 Expo.

While Marvel fans were kept busy during the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con International, there was barely any Star Wars news from Lucasfilm. There wasn't anything about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Star Wars: The Mandalorian, or any other future project that the studio had in mind for the franchise.

While most fans have given up the hopes of getting the first official trailer for The Rise of Skywalker early, many are hoping that Lucasfilm might try to make up for the quiet by dropping a few other major announcements during D23. An Ewan McGregor Obi-Wan Kenobi project would be perfect for the convention – not only would it add some major hype to this year's D23, but it would also give Star Wars fans something to talk about while waiting for The Rise of Skywalker to begin its promotional campaign.

Let's cross our fingers and wait and see.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
