There have been a lot of questions about the future of the Star Wars franchise lately. Not only is Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker going to close the curtain on Disney's sequel trilogy, but the movie is also going to culminate the entire Skywalker saga. That's 40 years of Star Wars coming to an end. What comes after that?
While Lucasfilm hasn't really announced the release dates for its other projects outside of Star Wars: The Mandalorian, fans know that there are two other series on the way. One is a Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel series featuring the adventures of Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), and the other is the Obi-Wan Kenobi series promising the return of Ewan McGregor as everyone's favorite Jedi Knight. Now, a new rumor suggests that a third Disney+ Star Wars series is on the way.
Making Star Wars editor Jason Ward just recently spoke with Inverse and according to the Star Wars leaker, a brand "new Star Wars show is starting now that nobody even knows."
Ward went on to reveal that the series being developed is going to focus on Doctor Aphra, the popular Star Wars character that was introduced in Marvel's Darth Vader comics and who later, thanks to public demand, went on to headline in her very own comic book series.
According to Ward, he heard that the project is a "Lucasfilm-Marvel venture with both companies teaming up to bring a Star Wars show to the small screen."
This is pretty big news. Doctor Aphra has been a recent fan favorite, and having her in Lucasfilm's Disney+ roster would further add to the credibility of Marvel's Star Wars comics.
Of course, we have to wait and see. Rumors remain rumors until they're confirmed by Lucasfilm.
