Baby Yoda's "dastardly" actions during the tenth chapter of The Mandalorian have surprisingly divided the entire Star Wars community. Those who've seen "The Passenger" were witnesses to the horrific scene of The Child munching on the Frog Lady's eggs. Some fans weren't exactly bothered by it but there are people who couldn't help but raise their eyebrows.
Now, I'm pretty sure that no one anticipated that specific moment to get this viral and Lucasfilm is finally chiming in to address the matter. Well, the company's Creative Art Manager Phil Szostak, at least. In a tweet, Szostak gave out his comments regarding the controversial scene and explained that there's no need to be pressed about it as the eggs were actually unfertilized. In a Twitter post, he wrote: "For the record, Chapter 10 of #TheMandalorian makes it clear that the Frog Lady's eggs are unfertilized, like the chicken eggs many of us enjoy. But obviously, chickens aren't sentient beings and the Child eating the eggs is intentionally disturbing, for comedic effect." Check out his tweet here:
I totally get why a lot of fans are disturbed because Baby Yoda has always been presented as a charming creature capable of doing no harm to other beings, except of course when he Force choked Cara Dune by accident. Now, I wouldn't exactly be surprised if the folks over at Lucasfilm will begin to refrain from doing more controversial stuff with the adorable Star Wars character. After all, he's become the show's poster "child" (get it?), and presenting him in such a manner could hurt the character's popularity especially amongst children.
That said, The Mandalorian Season 2 is now streaming on Disney+.
