Peter Jackson may be best known for his work on The Lord of the Rings, but he has recently been getting credit on his work for documentary films. After he wowed audiences with They Shall Not Grow Old, he now has his sights set on working on a film about the Fab Four.
According to Empire, Jackson has been hired to direct a documentary about The Beatles. What's more, he'll have access to 55 hours of unseen footage that was recorded during the band's work on their last album, Let it Be. Jackson says:
"I was relieved to discover the reality is very different to the myth… It's simply an amazing historical treasure-trove. Sure, there's moments of drama – but none of the discord this project has long been associated with. Watching John, Paul, George, and Ringo work together, creating now-classic songs from scratch, is not only fascinating - it's funny, uplifting and surprisingly intimate."
We don't know if the movie will be using any of the restoration techs that was used in They Shall Not Grow Old, but I'm kind of wishing that they will. Otherwise, Jackson is a great storyteller, and with The Beatles having such a huge impact on pop culture, everyone is sure to check out this documentary.
Then again, I was kind of hoping that someone made an updated version of Yellow Submarine. There's an entire generation of kids who haven't had a chance to learn the magic of the Beatles, and that's a damn shame.
No release date or official title has been made for Peter Jackson's Beatles movie.
