In this modern Hades and Persephone retelling, several roles of mythological characters have shifted. In Lore Olympus, who is Persephone's father? Is he the same as in the original myth?

Japanese manga might remain a very popular form of entertainment, but webtoons, be they Korean manhwa or Western works, are also gaining momentum, with Lore Olympus being one of the most thrilling Western webtoons to check out.

About Lore Olympus

Lore Olympus is a romance webtoon series written and illustrated by New Zealand creator Rachel Smythe.

It's a modern retelling of the Taking of Persephone, one of the most often retold Ancient Greek myths.

In Ancient Greek myths and epics, the drama often ensues by the fact that gods aren't so different from humans; they experience feelings such as love, lust, jealousy, and rage in similar, though magnified ways, often causing damage to those around them.

In this stylish retelling, which holds an impressive 9.71 stars on Webtoons, Hades is of a large corporation that manages the souls of the dead, known as Underworld Corp, while Persephone is a college student who was just allowed to access the world of gods.

In Lore Olympus, Persephone doesn't have a father. She was created solely by her mother, meaning that she is not related to either Zeus or Hades.

In the original myth, Persephone was the daughter of Demeter, goddess of agriculture, a fact that remains true in Rachel Smythe's adaptation.

However, Lore Olympus thankfully changed the original myth enough to ensure that Persephone is not the daughter of Zeus in this adaptation.

Zeus and Hades are both sons of Cronus, so, if Persephone was a daughter of Zeus, she and Hades were blood relatives. Incestuous relationships are common in the ancient greek pantheon, but, of course, there's no room for it in modern works.

Lore Olympus deals with other difficult topics, such as sexual abuse, harassment, and trauma, but, overall, it's meant to be a fun and relatable adaptation, which might have not been achieved as easily without changing the gods' family ties.
